If We the People are going to play the renaming/rebranding game, let Us do it on the basis of things that matter. Like, our belated recognition that We are not the world, we are part of it; We are not a continent, we are part of one. Like, the survival of the nation and its peoples. The justification for which, in the eyes of the world, is really questionable right now. And will remain so until our current national shame has been obliterated, in universal acknowledgement of Our depravity and the need to meaningfully atone for our sins.

“Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has hit back at Donald Trump’s tariff threats, saying that his American counterpart was elected as the leader of the United States and “not to be the emperor of the world.”
