As in “Enough is enough and enough is too much”, Popeye. We the Peeple of these Untied States in North America didn’t pay attention the last time this happened. Maybe this time We will wake up.
1. All elected officeholders in the legislative and executive branches of the Government of the USNA shall stand down, effective immediately.
2. Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the USNA shall take charge of the executive branch, pending elections for vacant offices which shall be held no later than 90 days from their take-charge date. The legislative branch shall be in recess until new legislators can be elected and seated.
3. No current or past office-holder in either the legislative or executive branches of the Government of the USNA shall be eligible for election. Their actions and inactions have created the current impasse, have enabled the looming takeover of that Government by unhinged dictators, and this shall be their performative atonement.
4. No member of either the Republican or Democratic Parties shall be eligible for election. See above.
5. No person who has served in a leadership position (e.g. Chief Executive Officer) of a for-profit business shall be eligible for election. The style of leadership that they have learned and practiced has proved itself inimical to democracy, it therefore shall be disallowed in the Government of the USNA.
6. All elections shall count the votes of all persons eligible to vote in their respective jurisdictions, including those who decline to cast a ballot. In all elections, Nobody shall be a recognized candidate, for whom those who do not cast ballots shall be counted as having voted. If elected via plurality or majority, Nobody shall take office. If Nobody is elected to executive offices, or if Nobody constitutes a quorum in either House of the legislature, the legislative branch shall remain in recess, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff shall retain responsibility for the executive branch, pending new elections within 90 days of the previous ones.
7. All forms of professional entertainment (mass and social media including AI, commercial “news”, sports, theatre) shall be banned, the ban to persist until such time as We the People have learned how to use these tools to prosper the Nation and its People, and have unlearned the lazy habit of being used by them for the promulgation of selfishness, ignorance, and pigheadedness, and for the profiteering of billionaire oligarchs.
8. Any campaign for office that resorts to the techniques of professional entertainment to advance its candidate, or otherwise appeals to emotions rather than reason and appropriate qualification, shall be shut down, and the candidate disqualified.
The issues before the nation are profound, and need to be addressed by a populace that is prepared to listen to what it needs to know about these issues, to understand what actions are required to make necessary positive changes (most of which actions will be unpleasant to contemplate), and to resolve to undertake these actions in a spirit of mutual sacrifice, that the Nation may be rescued from the brink of the precipice on which it now teeters, and be rebuilt on a sound, sober, and lasting foundation.
The era of hearing only what We wish to hear, and placing in charge of Our lives only those who most successfully entertain us with what We wish to hear, shall come to an end.
